Carol Kamin
Children's Policy Consultant
Carol Kamin is a Policy Analyst consulting for MCC supporting its child poverty reduction efforts on the state and federal levels. She is past President and CEO of Children's Action Alliance, a private, non-profit, research and policy development organization that advocates on behalf of Arizona's Children. She has recently served as a Site Leader for Generations Incorporated in Somerville, Massachusetts and is a consultant on child and family policy and non-profit management.
She began her career in state government working for the Arizona Department of Economic Security in a variety of positions including State Administrator for the Administration for Children, Youth, and Families. In 1986, Dr. Kamin was appointed by Governor Bruce Babbitt to be the first Director of the Governor's Office for Children. She subsequently worked as Assistant to Mayor Terry Goddard helping him design his human services and education agendas for the City of Phoenix. She was named by both the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Business Journal as one of the most influential leaders in the state for bringing vital children’s issues to the forefront of the state's agenda.
She is the recipient of many honors for her work, including the 2007 Woman of the Year award for public policy from the YWCA of Maricopa County; Arizona State University College of Education Hall of Fame, 2007; the 2004 Citizen of the Year Award from the National Association of Social Workers, Arizona Chapter; the 2003 Andy Nichols Honor Award for her contribution to Arizona Public Health; the 1999 Florette Angel Memorial Child Advocacy Award from the National Association of Child Advocates; the 1999 Susan B. Anthony Luminary Award from the Arizona Women’s Council; the 1996 Woman of Achievement Award from the Arizona Historical Society; the 1995 Public Interest Award from the Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest; the 1993 B'nai B'rith Humanitarian Award; the Human Relations Award from the Arizona Education Association; the "Magic Bullet" Award from Honeywell Inc. for "Providing a Strong and Effective Voice for Arizona's Children"; and the Governor's Citation of Merit for Outstanding Service to the State of Arizona.
Dr. Kamin received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Boston University and her Ph.D. in Child Development from Arizona State University.
